"Consensus Decision-Making"
6:00pm, February 6, 2014
@ GrowHaus, 4751 York St, Denver, CO
sponsored by Denver Permaculture Guild
Consensus is a formal, equitable decision-making system designed to prioritize every person's equal democratic participation. This workshop explores the principles, structure, methods, and tools underpinning the Consensus decision-making model. After introducing the Consensus model, we will discuss common problems and solutions that emerge in Consensus, and do some hands-on practice and role-playing to try out our skills.
Because it requires full participation, Consensus is only successful when every person considers themselves a "leader" in the process, knowledgeable about how it is supposed to work and willing to keep it working well! This workshop is ideal for people who are new to Consensus, or people who are already familiar and may be using Consensus in their groups, and want to improve and practice their knowledge and skills.

Caroline Savery will present an in-depth look at co-operatives: what are they? why all the "buzz" about co-ops? how do they work, and why do they matter? how can co-operatives address critical social, economic, and community issues at once? are co-operatives really a viable alternative to corporations in today's economy? If you are an entrepreneur who cares about your community, if you are frustrated with how corporate greed impacts our local economies and are looking for solutions, or if you're merely curious about co-operatives, please join us for an evening of learning, socializing and snacks in the Big Idea's new and improved bookstore space at 4812 Liberty Avenue in Bloomfield.
This presentation will also mark the first of a 9-week series of co-operative education: attendees will have the option to join an 8-week reading & discussion course about co-operatives.
